What should I expect when I visit?
Visiting a new church for the first time always raises many questions. Where do I go? What do I wear? When do I show up? What about programs for the children? What can I expect? These and many more question all go through your mind. We want to put you at ease so that your first visit to Olivet will be friendly, enjoyable, and give you a since of ease. We want to be a blessing and feel like we are “right for the whole family, with inspiring music, helpful teaching and preaching, and encouraging words from fellow believers. Here are a few common questions you might have about what to expect on your first visit.
What is available for my children?
Starting with an excellent nursery, there is something special for every age child from birth through high school. We provide nursery staff at every service from newborn to age four. Our Sunday School hour and Morning worship time offers fun, friendly, Bible-centered classes up through sixth grade. Sunday School is also offered for all children nursery, toddler, pre-school and grades 1st – 12th staffed by well trained, friendly teachers who make learning the Bible exciting and memorable for your child. On Wednesday evenings, we offer Kids4Truth during the school season or have special meeting times for our school-age children during the summer. “Youth group” meets on nights with games and Bible lessons for our junior/senior high.
How will I find the nursery, classes and services?
We provide “greeters” at each entrance before Sunday School, and the Morning and Evening Worship Service. These people are glad to direct and even escort you to the right place.
What do you offer for adults?
At 9:30a.m. each Sunday morning, we have several organized Adult classes designed to meet the need church – classes for young adults, and all the way through to our Senior Saints! These classes are designed to be smaller in order for people to get to know each other better, share needs and prayer requests and hear a teaching more directly applicable to their life-stage. The morning “greeters” can share with you which class might fit your needs the best.
What about the worship services?
On Sunday mornings, beginning at 10:45 a.m., you can participate in encouraging and uplifting music, plus inspiring music from soloists. Our song service is always followed by a clear, helpful and challenging Bible message.
How should I dress?
There is not a dress code at Olivet Baptist Church for members or guests. When attending, you’ll see a variety of styles. Our goal is to give God our best – on the outside and on the inside. We want you to feel welcome - our focus is to come and hear God’s Word.
Am I required to give an offering?
No. We don’t invite you to Olivet for your offering. We want each service to be our gift to you. We hope you'll find a warm family spirit, truth preached from God’s Word and a place where you can grow in God’s grace. Please do not feel any obligation to participate in the offering as a guest.
What else do you offer during the week?
Wednesday nights are “busy” at Olivet. Kids4Truth is for our pre-school through sixth grade classes and the youth service is for junior/senior high. The adults have a more interactive Bible study together – a time of learning and asking questions from the passage or topic being studied. All programs on Wednesdays end around 8:15p.m. in order to help get the children back home for school the following day.
Our college/career young adults meet together on Friday nights for fellowship, food and focus in God’s Word. There are other Bible Studies offered throughout the week as well. Please call or ask about these other opportunities to learn God’s Word.
